Although the visual and art style of the game is very reminiscent of Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption, the game does offer the players vision of Tehran during the years of the Iranian Revolution. While the game does allow you to explore freely in Tehran, it also offers a series of defined locations that are significant to the events of the game.
The gameplay of 1979 Revolution: Black Friday has been inspired from those of the Telltale games. For each scene, you get to choose a scene from radio broadcasts or newspaper articles. Depending on your dialogue choices, the game will offer a more or less humorous interpretation of the event. There is also a narrator character, who the player gets to interact with at certain points in the game. The choices you make will go a long way in deciding the fate of Persians and foreigners alike, as well as the future of the iranian people.
This game, in general, is very well designed. There are no repetitive sequences or forced story gaps. One can pass the time from scene to scene, in between as they please. As I mentioned, the art style reminds one of Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption. While this game is story driven, the storytelling is extremely well done. It does not feel overused, nor does it get repetitive.
1979 Revolution: Black Friday is available for PS4 now, with PS Plus members getting a 25% discount on the game. Fans can also check out other titles, including Metro Exodus and the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
